Qadisha Grotto, It's 10 million years oldBookmark this
The 10-million-year-old Qadisha Grotto was first discovered in 1903, but it wasn’t until 1923, at the onset of the Qadisha electric project, that real exploration commenced. At present, 778 metres of cave have been fully surveyed, revealing a dazzling collection of stalactites and stalagmites in wonderful colours.
The grotto is a 7km walk or drive from Bcharré off the old road to The Cedars; follow the signs to L’Aiglon Hotel and then take the concrete footpath opposite (look for the ‘Entree Grotte Kadicha’ sign). It’s then a 1.5km walk to the grotto. A simple restaurant operates here in summer.
