“A world-renowned composer and acclaimed pianist.” - BBC World News MALEK JANDALI: A Syrian Symphony for Peace An Evening With Malek Jandali In Conversation with author and storyteller, John Hockney Australian Debut Performance of selected works FRIDAY 16 JUNE 7.30PM The Blue Mountains Theatre presents A Syrian Symphony for Peace featuring renowned German born, Syrian-American composer and pianist Malek Jandali. Jandali is recognized as a leading figure in today's music world. Honoured with the 2013 GUSI International Peace Prize for his ongoing world tour The Voice of the Free Syrian Children and his dedication to peace and humanitarian causes, he was also the recipient of the 2014 Global Music Humanitarian Award. He has performed with orchestras including the Cairo Symphony, the Russian Philharmonic, the Royal Philharmonic, Ludwig Symphony, Zagreb Philharmonic, The Stockholm Solister, the Syrian National Symphony, and on major concert stages in London, Cairo, Damascus, Istanbul, Paris, Atlanta, New York, Washington DC, Vienna, Madrid, Toronto, and Dubai. Jandali is the founder of non-profit organization Pianos for Peace, which aspires to use the power of music to enrich communities. He is also the founder of the Malek Jandali International Youth Piano Competition, which encourages talented young pianists from around the globe to embrace the music of their homelands and submit applications for the chance to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City. In 2015 the Carnegie Corporation of New York recognized him alongside Yo-Yo Ma and Itzhak Perlman as a Great Immigrant for his contributions to society. This program will be his Australian Debut Performance and feature Jandali's selected original piano works, which integrates ancient melodies from Aleppo and the Silk Road into works that are preserving and presenting the musical heritage of Syria.
